A step forward for aggregation business using Share Denki’s energy storage model
Tokyo, May 9, 2023: Sharing Energy Co., Ltd.,(“Sharing Energy”) a provider of the third-party ownership service for PV systems, “Share Denki”, has conducted “Demonstration Project for further utilisation of distributed energy resources”, sponsored by the ministry of economy, trade and industry with Evergen Pty Ltd(Evergen), and Sassor Inc(Sassor), utilizing multiple household storage battery systems. Hence, Sharing Energy hereby announces the current achievements for the project and future challenges regarding remote control technology for household storage batteries.
FY2022 demonstration project for further utilization of distributed energy resources
Purpose of the demonstration
The purpose of this project is to verify the feasibility of an aggregation business for low-voltage resources, including household storage batteries, by improving control accuracy as a resource aggregator, as well as by improving the economic efficiency of negawatt transactions and enhancing supply capacity provision services.
Outline of the demonstration project
In this demonstration project, Sharing Energy participated in a consortium led by ENERES Co.,Ltd. and worked on the following demonstration projects, utilizing multiple household storage battery systems as a resource aggregators (RA). In addition, customers of the Sharing Energy storage battery model cooperated in the demonstration projects.
■Supply capacity verification
Based on the spot market price on the day of control implementation, create a recharge/discharge plan that takes into account the difference in electricity procurement prices from the electricity retailer’s perspective, and implement group control of household storage batteries.
■Adjustment power verification
Conduct control demonstration assuming primary regulating power that is scheduled to be established in the future in the supply-demand adjustment market and demonstration of triggering command power in the capacity market.
■Original verification
Demonstration of RR-FIT, which has already been established in the supply and demand adjustment market, using storage batteries.
Role of each company
Through the use of Sassor’s RA (resource aggregator) system “ENES” and Evergen’s control API, Sharing Energy integrated and remotely controlled the storage battery system provided as the “Share Denki storage battery model” and demonstrated the study of commercialization of aggregation services.
Main achievements and future challenges
■Supply capacity verification
・Confirmation that each household was able to control the system according to the difference in spot market prices
・Although all households were able to confirm discharge during times of high spot market prices, system specification issues were highlighted with regard to recharging
■Adjustment power verification
・For the FCR demonstration, the project has been addressed up to frequency acquisition, and actual control will be addressed in the future
・For the capacity market DR, household demand was reduced below the baseline in all frames, and the success was below the target value. Additional verification is needed in the future to take into account trends in customer electricity demand
■Original verification
・Although it was not possible to include the tertiary of RR-FIT in the success determination range, a series of flows were implemented with a certain degree of accuracy in the first demonstration as a shared energy system
・Identified issues with the system coordination specifications, and need to improve accuracy to increase the success rate
Future initiatives
Sharing Energy, Evergen, and Sassor will accelerate their efforts to develop the service based on the technical challenges in remotely controlling residential storage batteries that were learned through this year’s demonstration.
Furthermore, by increasing the number and types of energy resources to be controlled, such as EV chargers and water heaters, and by providing integrated control, we will contribute to the stable supply of electricity and the promotion of carbon neutrality.
